I’m Flying from JFK to Martha’s Vineyard for a friends’ wedding this weekend. In my effort to pack as little and as light as necessary, while attempting not to forget anything I may need for wedding prep, I make kits.
And, of course, this also means… 3 oz or less
I save everything from first class accessories to soap from the hotel bathroom; waste not want not, right?? Wonderfully, my boyfriend does too. The downside, however, is that this often creates a world of clutter in drawers or under the sink. To solve this problem (before moving last week) I sorted all of our saved items into pre-made kits.
This kit is for the overnight guest. Hospitality rule number one is to make your guests feel welcome and comfortable. Using items saved from previous overnight travel provides the perfect amount of product that your guest should need.
By utilizing what I already have saved, I am able to provide everything I deem appropriate for an impromptu guest in a simple kit that can be updated and personalized if and when necessary.
Place the following items neatly in a zip lock bag: Shampoo, Conditioner, Shower Gel, Toothbrush, Toothpaste, Comb, Lip Balm, Tissues, Headache medicine.
When I’m feeling uncomfortable or under the weather the last thing I want to do is search for medicine. First aid kits aside, I have assembled an outdoor emergency kit. As a lady, I include a tampon. As a very allergic to poison ivy gal, I also include Benedryl lotion (although I generally recommend Technu!) Everything else is really what I may need on an outing in the woods, including: tea for nasal allergies, clear eyes, bug spray, Neosporin, and a thermometer to see if there is something more serious that needs attention, for instance infection.
While we may occasionally fly first class, there will inevitably be a coach red eye somewhere in the mix… great for saving money, but not great for comfort! The fix? Flight Kit.
This kit is primarily constructed of items borrowed from previous air travel, including: Mirror, comb, toothbrush, toothpaste, mints, lotion, refreshing water spray, lip balm, tissues, earplugs, eye cover, and pen for crosswords, journals, or customs forms! Pack all items back into the case saved from those first class flights and it is ready to go at a moments notice… perhaps a ‘whim trip’ to the South of France!?
Advice:
- Decide what products are your favorites and make sure to be on the lookout at your favorite hotels to snag a few extras!
- Buy in bulk to reduce the cost on items you do purchase (bug spray, mints, etc.)
- Use machine-washable see through bags.
Baggu bags are not only stylish, but reasonably priced, and great for re-use!
